It appears a few things have come up that cannot wait until the next scheduled School Committee Meeting in August. There are 3 items on the agenda:
Bay State Shelter Update
No exhibit for this, so we will have to wait until the meeting to find out if it is a routine update or if there is any news forthcoming.
Vicky Saldana, Assistant Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools, has accepted a position elsewhere. Dr. Allardi is proposing that we convert the position back to Director of Curriculum (a year or two ago it was switched to Assistant Superintendent), which will save around $20k.
While the need for restoring some additional support for the HOD front office is acute, there is some uncertainty around whether the school will receive 2 federal grants that it has routinely been awarded. Dr. Allardi is advising the school committee to wait on restoring anything to the budget with the savings until it becomes more clear whether or not we will be receiving those two federal grants.
The Norfolk Facilities Department would like to install a solar array on the roof of the Freeman-Kennedy School. They have identified a contractor who has sent a Letter of Intent which needs approval from the school committee in order to move the project forward. It is not a commitment, but the first step of many that requires sign off from the school committee.
Additionally, parents were informed last week that the principal of HOD, Tami Rebello, has accepted a position in another district. Her last day was June 30. The current assistant principal, Kristen Giffune, is stepping up as interim principal for this school year. The superintendent is opening up a search for an assistant principal to fill Mrs. Giffune’s position that she will be vacating to fill in as interim principal
